Who Can Apply

Any prisoner in the UK & Republic of Ireland who has more than 3 months still left to serve.

What Can Be Funded

Up to £20 worth of books for educational purposes such as NVQ training or Open University courses, every 12 months. The student must still have at least 3 months left to serve in prison. Will also supply basic bilingual dictionaries  for foreign nationals and/or picture/colour/large-print for those with reading difficulties.

What Can Not Be Funded

We will not purchase encyclopedias, atlases, religious publications, hobby books, general reading books, autobiographies, magazine subscriptions, art materials, musical instruments, stationery, calculators, computers, CD-ROMs or language courses.

How To Apply

The student needs to complete a simple A4 application form and provide proof that he or she is actively involved in education, namely something written to this effect on headed paper from an educational tutor or an acceptance letter from the Open University, Prisoners' Education Trust or similar. Requests for books can also be submitted on your behalf by tutors via email info@havendistribution.org.uk

Acknowledgement

Haven aims to provide the requested book within 6 weeks of receiving an application. If the application is unsuccessful, Haven will reply to inform the applicant (or their tutor) of their decision.

Haven also provides general reading books, which can be requested from our catalogue – please contact Haven for a copy of our catalogue.
