Open University - Crowther Fund
All OU Honours graduates are eligible to apply for Crowther and Beevers awards (subject to criteria). Both funds are independent of financial circumstances, however, they cannot be used to relieve financial hardship.
Funding applications will be considered towards any activity seen to be inspired by, or an extension of, an OU degree.
Crowther Awards can assist, for example, with the cost of a postgraduate OU qualification or professional diploma, non-OU study (either undergraduate or postgraduate), formal supervised research proposals, projects either concerned with the community or an extension of studies already undertaken as an OU student and activities such as study tours, special tuition, masterclasses and personal lines of study.
Beevers Awards relate to tuition fees or study-related costs for research degrees only with The Open University. Awards are considered up to a maximum of £1,000 but most awards may be considerably less than this.
The Funds are not available to relieve financial hardship, or to assist applicants towards the cost of Open University undergraduate study. Retrospective applications for non-tuition fee costs already incurred will not be considered. The award cannot be used to purchase laptops or other equipment.
Both awards can be applied for through the Crowther application form. Please complete the form (available on the website link) electronically and email to OU-Crowther-Fund@open.ac.uk. In the current circumstances we would encourage the forms to be sent electronically rather by post.
Applications open each year on 1st November and close on the final date by the end of February. Award Board meetings take place in April, and applicants are notified in writing of the outcome of their application by May.
If intending to apply for either award, all applicants are asked to read the guidance notes (available on the webiste) carefully.
