Any prisoner who is allowed access via a Distance Learning Co-ordinator, to the prison’s monitored, internet enabled computer. Priority will be given to applicants who have few or no qualifications, as well as limited work experience, or a reason why they cannot return to their previous career upon release.
What Can Be Funded
Accredited vocational training up to level 3 and towards the costs associated with studying.
What Can Not Be Funded
Retrospective grants, courses that are not accredited, courses leading to self-employment in health and beauty, animal care and personal fitness, performing arts courses, GCSEs, A levels or equivalent qualifications, undergraduate or postgraduate degrees, applicants who have a degree.
How To Apply
Speak to the Distance Learning Coordinator within the prison. The application must be completed and submitted online. The Distance Learning Coordinator should be able to book you onto the prison's monitored, internet enabled computer so you can complete your application to Thomas Wall Trust.
Key Dates
You can apply at any time during the year. We aim to process each application within 8 weeks.
Notes
Grants can be up to £1,500 towards course fees and/or costs associated with studying including: child care, travel and mobility costs and accessible study materials. Applications are usually delayed by waiting for references or failure to respond to additional questions. We cannot accept references from relatives.
Successful applicants will be expected to notify us of any changes that affect the grant. We will also expect you to provide us with progress updates after you complete your course. Failure to do so will prevent you from re-applying for future grants.
