Who Can Apply
People who are disabled* and are studying towards their undergraduate or post-graduate degree or towards one of the qualifications listed here: www.gov.uk/disabled-students-allowance-dsa/eligibility
What Can Be Funded
Any specialist equipment needed for studying your course, non-medical helpers, extra travel costs and other disability-related costs. For a laptop/PC you will be required to contribute £200.
What Can Not Be Funded
Any normal day-to-day expenses associated with your disability or normal student expenses.

A DSA application is available on the Student Finance England website or a paper copy can be found here www.gov.uk/student-finance-forms
Acknowledgement
Once your application has been received, you'll know if you have been successful gaining a DSA within 6 weeks. Getting DSA support in place can take up to 14 weeks.
Notes

The fund is pro-rata, so if you are studying part-time or at home you will receive a proportional amount of funding towards support costs.

* The term disability covers:

  • learning difficulties; for example dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD
  • mental health conditions; for example anxiety, depression
  • physical disabilities; for example if you have to use aids for moving around or need a special keyboard
  • sensory disability; for example visually impaired, deaf or a hearing impairment
  • long-term health conditions; for example cancer, chronic heart disease, HIV
